Galaxy S24 Ultra is getting an upgraded OLED display

Now that Samsung is done launching all its high-end phones for this year, it's time to move on to the next significant upgrade. The Galaxy S24 series is expected to go official in February 2024, and some of its features have leaked already. A new rumor claims that the Galaxy S24 Ultra is getting an upgraded display and an improved camera.

Galaxy S24 Ultra could have an improved OLED screen
According to reliable tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature an upgraded display. While the tipster didn't reveal the exact upgrade, we expect it to be the new M13 OLED panel with higher peak brightness. The Galaxy S23 Ultra reaches up to a maximum of 1,750 nits of brightness, while rival phones from Apple, OPPO, and Xiaomi go over 2,000 nits of peak brightness. This is an area where Samsung needs an obvious upgrade.

Most smartphone brands have settled at QHD+ resolution for their flagship phones, and the color accuracy and refresh rates on high-end phones have already reached a level where improving it won't be perceptible by most people. So, the only area where smartphone brands are expected to bring improvements next year is peak screen brightness for better visibility in outdoor conditions. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is also expected to feature a titanium frame, a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a faster processor.

The Galaxy S24 series is expected to use Samsung Display's 13th generation AMOLED panel, called the M13, which is thinner and has improved power efficiency and picture quality. The base Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ are rumored to feature an LTPO display panel that can go as low as 1Hz and as high as 120Hz for improved power efficiency. Both phones are expected to feature 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The Galaxy S24+ could also feature a slightly bigger battery.
